Kaylani and Joseph became friends in high school. Kaylani was drawn to Joseph for his kindness and sincerity. Joseph could see that Kaylani was driven. She was not complacent, hardworking, and always wanting to go further in life. As they grew closer together, Joseph would bring Kaylani to church and their relationship strengthened.

Joseph planned out the proposal with Kaylani's family in secret. The two were spending Christmas Eve with her family, passing gifts and playing games with prizes. To play the game meant putting on blindfolds and trying to scoop out cotton balls with a spatula. While Kaylani was blindfolded, Joseph's parents were quietly let into the house, and everyone else cheered her on. Kaylani lifted up her blind thinking she had won the game. To her surprise and delight, Joseph was kneeling down, ring in hand.

Kaylani and Joseph will be getting married in the same church that they attend every Sunday.
